Academic Assessments
An academic achievement assessment determines an individual’s level of academic skills including his/her reading, maths, spelling, writing and listening. The individual’s performance on the test is compared to his/her grade-matched peers or age-matched peers.

When would an academic achievement assessment be administered?
- To identify and diagnose specific learning disorders such as reading and maths disorders
- To identify the level of skill a gifted child possesses in order to assist parents and schools in making decisions regarding class placement
What are the benefits of having an academic achievement assessment?
- To provide an objective measure of the person’s academic skills to assist parents, schools, TAFE and/or university in meeting an individual’s learning needs to prevent a child from experiencing negative outcomes at school including: poor results, disruptive behaviour patterns, avoidance and school refusal, low self-esteem and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression
- To enable an individual to access special provision for formal exams
- To assist high achieving and/or gifted children by providing evidence to the school to support the provision of extension activities, acceleration in a particular subject area or whole year acceleration
